Biography

Pierrick Thébault is a design researcher and practitioner interested in the design of visualization and interaction tools that better support people in understanding complex phenomenons and making decisions.

He follows a constructive research approach where the creation of a system, artifact or media takes a central role and becomes the key means in building up knowledge. He leverages a wide range of qualitative methods and prototyping techniques to design usable, useful and desirable solutions.

He is currently leading the user experience design effort at Qwant and is a research affiliate at MIT SENSEable City Lab, where he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow. His prior experience at AXA’s Data Innovation Lab and Bell Laboratories includes the design of big data and internet of things solutions. He holds a master’s degree in interaction design from L’Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique and a Ph.D. from Arts et Métiers ParisTech, France.

He is the author of several research papers published in scientific journals and conferences. He also shared his work and approach with students of top-ranked design and engineering schools (Massachusetts Institute of Technologies, Ecole National Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, L’Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique, Télécom ParisTech).
