Biography

Kai Kuikkaniemi is researcher in Helsinki Institute for Information Technology, Digital content communities research group focused on three research themes: live participation, personal data / MyData and pervasive computing. He has been involved in over 15 large research projects and coordinated software development in over 10 different software projects ranging from games and large screen installations to large collaborative live participation systems and augmented reality guidance systems.

While working in HIIT Kuikkaniemi is also finishing doctoral studies in Aalto University School of Arts on Live Participation. His research is mostly situated in the context of design research and human-computer interaction, but he has been also involved in performance design research, games research and information systems research. He is focused on in in-the-wild approach, hence experimenting with working systems in real environments. He is also actively involved in knowledge transfer and entrepreneurial activities.
